Wesley Sneijder picks Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia in his preferred Netherlands XI
Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia is the preferred choice for Holland legend Wesley Sneijder in his Netherlands XI. The former Inter Milan star feels the 23-year-old should start in Louis van Gaal’s team.
Malacia joined the Red Devils from Feyenoord in the recent transfer window. The left-back was United’s first acquisition of the first summer under Erik ten Hag.
Speaking to Voetbal Zone (h/t Manchester Evening News), Sneijder, who won the treble with the Nerazzurri in the 2009/10 season, wants to see Malacia in the Oranje XI due to his attacking prowess.
“I choose Malacia in my team, because he comes up high and is much higher.
“Then you get more into a 3-5-2 and I like that.”
Malacia has enjoyed his start to life in Manchester. The left-back has played the majority of the minutes under the new gaffer in the current campaign.
Ten Hag’s reign in the Old Trafford dugout went off to a disappointing start. United lost the first two games of the new season. We sat bottom of the Premier League after falling to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. It was the club’s worst start in the league in 101 years.
Luke Shaw started in both fixtures. However, Malacia replaced the England international at halftime after Brentford scored four goals past us in the first 35 minutes.
Since then, the Holland international has been the first choice in every game for the Red Devils. The 23-year-old has performed impressively to keep out Shaw from the starting XI.
United have gone on a four-game win streak in the league since the 4-0 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium. We have beaten the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal in that time.
