Ian Wright feels Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has gotten back to his ‘dangerous’ best
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has raved about a “reborn” Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United forward scored two goals past the Gunners.
Rashford has had a disappointing time on the pitch for some time now. The England international has looked devoid of confidence since the Euro 2020 final.
However, under Erik ten Hag, Rashford seems to be back to his best. And speaking on his podcast (h/t Manchester Evening News), Wright is happy to see the United academy graduate finding the back of the net. The former Arsenal legend has been impressed with the will of the 24-year-old.
“I was really pleased for Rashford because – it was the same as the Liverpool game – he’s another one of those players that everything he does is quite defining. If he misses that [first goal], it goes to that place of real negativity again.
“What I’ve seen from him up until this point, especially with the last two goals he’s scored, is somebody that thinks ‘If I’m going through, I’m scoring’. I can’t complain about that because Arsenal went there with the right attitude.”
United and Rashford both had a bad start to the 2022/23 campaign. The 24-year-old failed to make any real impact in the games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. We ended up losing them both.
Rashford has made an impact this season
However, since the Liverpool game, Rashford has looked like a different player. Ten Hag has tweaked his position a bit, playing the England international in a more central role. The 24-year-old has since contributed with crucial goals.
Wright, who spent seven years with Arsenal, feels Rashford is once again poised with the ball at his feet. And things are going his way as well at the moment.
“I thought Man United, in the current climate, you don’t want those players to get confidence. [Christian] Eriksen is the one and Rashford looks reborn, he’s putting the pot on the fire because he’s ready to cook. He looks in that instant, unstoppable.
“The only thing that is going to stop him is if the pass isn’t good enough, or his touch isn’t good enough. Both of the finishes got a little clip off somebody, but he’s getting the luck now. With his pace, he is f****** dangerous.”
In the first six games of the current Premier League campaign, Rashford has gotten three goals and two assists to his name. Against Arsenal, the 24-year-old scored two brilliant counter-attacking goals and set up Antony for the first.
Ten Hag has made some bold decisions regarding the team selection. And one of them has been keeping Cristiano Ronaldo out of the starting XI in the last four fixtures.
