Erik ten Hag reveals Anthony Martial still out injured as Manchester United face Real Sociedad
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed Anthony Martial is still unavailable for selection as Real Sociedad visit Old Trafford to commence the Red Devils’ start of the Europa League campaign.
The French forward showed promising signs under Erik ten Hag during pre-season. However, the 26-year-old has been sidelined for the majority of our fixtures in the Premier League.
Speaking to the media ahead of the UEL fixture via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag provided an update on Martial. The France international is still recovering and has some ways to go before getting back to full fitness.
“Yes he’s still out, he’s progressing but he’s not ready to get back into team training.”
Martial made his way to Manchester from AS Monaco in 2015. The 26-year-old was one of the biggest prospects in football at the time. However, the France international has failed to deliver consistently.
In the 2019/20 season, Martial had one of his best campaigns in a red shirt. However, since then, he has been unable to go from strength to strength.
Last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not seem to fancy the Frenchman. He started just two games in the Premier League before moving to Sevilla in January on loan.
Martial returned to the club for pre-season. And Ten Hag seems to have been able to bring out the best from the France international. However, fans have only seen a small glimpse of the 26-year-old in a competitive game.
