Wage demands of Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot ‘weren’t crazy’ as deal with Juventus collapsed
Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot was not asking for a lot of money to move to Old Trafford from Juventus this summer. Goal Italia reporter Romeo Agresti claims that the France international’s demands “weren’t crazy”.
The Red Devils had initially agreed a fee in the region of £15 million with the Serie A outfit for the 27-year-old. A deal apparently failed to materialise due to the personal terms the player’s mother/agent was asking for from United.
However, the claims have been discarded by Agresti. Speaking to L’Equipe (h/t Express), the reporter rubbished the assertions about Rabiot’s wage demands. He said that the midfielder was asking for a salary lower than what some of the current stars in the Old Trafford locker room earn.
“The demands weren’t crazy. It’s exaggerated. She was asking for less than certain players currently at Manchester United.”
United were after Frenkie de Jong all summer. However, after little progress in a deal for the Barcelona midfielder, the Red Devils shifted their focus on other targets.
United needed to bolster their midfield
The Old Trafford side were looking to bolster the middle of the park in the final few weeks of the transfer window. And Rabiot was one of the names on the list for the Manchester-based club.
In the end, United did not pursue a deal for the 27-year-old. Instead, the Red Devils bought Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Brazilian has been one of the best defensive midfielders over the years.
Wage demands of Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot ‘weren’t crazy’ as the deal with Juventus collapsed. Initially, Erik ten Hag had been afforded just one new midfielder in Christian Eriksen. The Danish national arrived on a free transfer after impressing for half a season at Brentford.

However, the business United did was evidently not enough as the Bees stung four goals past United in the second game of the Premier League season. The Red Devils had already lost against Brighton & Hove Albion in Ten Hag’s first competitive fixture in the Old Trafford dugout.
It all seems to have worked out in the end as fans were not keen on Rabiot donning the iconic red shirt.
