Manchester United Player Ratings vs Arsenal

Manchester United put in a stellar performance against Arsenal, bringing Mikel Arteta’s high-flying side crashing down to earth.

In front of a charged Old Trafford crow, Erik ten Hag’s men turned on the heat and came out 3-1 winners on the night. Debutant Antony got us off to a flying start in the first half with a well-taken goal that nearly blew the top off the stadium.

Bukayo Saka drew Arsenal level in the second half before a brace from Marcus Rashford settled the tie. Man United have now won four games on the trot and are slowly yet surely developing into a solid team.

We now look at how the players fared on the night.

David De Gea – 7

A steady afternoon for the Spaniard who had to make two good saves to deny Gabriel Martinelli early on in the game. Unlucky to concede a goal after a defensive miscommunication. 1 goal conceded in the last three games will boost the no.1 confidence tremendously.

Diogo Dalot – 7

The Portuguese right-back has undoubtedly made the right-back spot his own and is growing in confidence after each game. Proficient in attack and defended with grit and tenacity, Dalot looks settled in the new look United defence.

Raphael Varane – 7.5

After an average first season with the club, Raphael Varane is proving his credentials to all doubters with an amazing string of performances and has formed a formidable partnership with Lisandro Martinez. The pair looked assured and handled Arsenal’s attack very efficiently.

Lisandro Martinez – 7

New signing Lisandro Martinez has continued his fine start to his Manchester United career with another impressive performance against Arsenal. He has provided the United defence with a sense of aggression which had been missing for a long time. Martinez and Varane are easily the first choice centre-back pairing at the moment.

Tyrell Malacia – 6.5

Tyrell Malacia has adapted really well to the demands of English football and is now above the pecking order ahead of Luke Shaw and came up with another good performance. Tasked with handling the highly rated Bukayo Saka, the left-back was caught a few times by the trickery and pace of England International but in general, was solid throughout the game.

Scott McTominay – 7.5

Scott McTominay’s performances have gone up a notch since the arrival of Casemiro and he showed again the reason behind the manager picking him in the starting lineup. Tasked with a more defensive role in midfield, he was instrumental in holding off Arsenal’s attack and impressed with his distribution from the back.

Christian Eriksen – 8

Christian Eriksen on a free transfer is one of the bargain deals of the summer. The Danish midfielder has slotted in beautifully in the new United set-up and has given our midfield a sense of calm and composure. He played an instrumental part in the build-up to the first goal and setting up the third goal for Marcus Rashford.

Bruno Fernandes – 7

The Portuguese talisman had a good game and played a wonderful through ball to set up Marcus Rashford for the second goal. Was unlucky to not be on the scoresheet after a good save from Aaron Ramsdale. Fernandes is cherishing his role as the team’s captain and has led his team to four successive victories.

Jadon Sancho – 6

Jadon Sancho had a rather quiet game as compared to his teammates. He played a key part in the build-up to the first goal and was tidy throughout the game.

Marcus Rashford – 9

After a turmoiled 2021/22 season, it seems like Marcus Rashford is returning to his previous levels and was the best player on the pitch. He had a key part to play in all the goals scored by United. If the current good form continues, he has a big chance of making Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

Antony – 7

Manchester United’s new signing Antony was put straight into the action with two training seasons under his belt and he repaid the faith shown by his manager with a debut goal. Antony provided another dimension to our attack and also impressed with his out-of-possession defending. Definitely looks like a solid player who will only improve with time.

Substitutions

Cristiano Ronaldo – 6

Followed up on his impressive cameo against Leicester City and was unlucky not to start the game. Made some amazing runs but the final pass was missing. He is a major contender to start the next game.

Fred – 6

Fred was tidy with his defending but could have made better passing decisions at times. Looks way more settled with a holding midfielder playing alongside him.

Casemiro – 6

Many expected Casemiro to start the game but the manager feels the Brazilian still needs time to adapt to his new surroundings. Casemiro entered when the game was at 3-1 and was an assured presence in front of the back line.

Harry Maguire – 5

Harry Maguire replaced Lisandro Martinez who suffered from a cramp and did his job well to defend the lead. Booked for a bad challenge.
