Erik ten Hag claims Cristiano Ronaldo is happy at Manchester United and staying for the 2022/23 season
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo is seemingly set to stay at the club. Erik ten Hag claims the Portugal international is happy to be with the Red Devils.
Ronaldo has evidently been angling for a move away from the club this summer. The 37-year-old missed most of the pre-season under the new gaffer.
Speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Ten Hag has been adamant about Ronaldo staying, with the Portuguese being in the Dutch manager’s plans. The former Ajax head coach claimed the club and the 37-year-old are in agreement.
“From the start we said we planned with Cristiano, it was clear. We are on the same page with him
“We are happy with him, he’s happy to be here and we want to make the season a success together.”
Ronaldo made his way back to United last summer. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s homecoming was received with a lot of fanfare. And the 37-year-old lived up to the expectations.
However, it was a bittersweet return, considering the fact that the Red Devils failed to perform well. While Ronaldo ended the 2021/22 campaign as our highest goalscorer, the other forwards failed to make an impact.
United were not able to make it to the top four. And subsequently, the Manchester-based club are not playing in the Champions League this season.
The Red Devils started the 2022/23 campaign on a sour note. Ten Hag lost his first two competitive games in the dugout of the Old Trafford side. However, we have managed to put in decent displays against Liverpool and Southampton.
However, Ronaldo has started just one game as of now. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga have started the last two fixtures.
