Napoli hold discussions with Jorge Mendes for Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo is attracting interest from Napoli. The Serie A giants have held discussions with the Portugal international’s agent Jorge Mendes for a possible transfer, according to Manchester Evening News.
Ronaldo’s agent has been busy throughout the summer. Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have all been approached by Mendes to take the 37-year-old away from Manchester. However, only Napoli have been the most engaged side.
The Serie A giants want to take the Portugal international permanently to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer. However, Gli Azzurri would also be open to taking Ronaldo on loan with the transfer window closing soon.
United are aware of Mendes trying to find an exit route for last season’s top goalscorer for the Red Devils. Erik ten Hag is also open to letting the 37-year-old leave the club.
The Manchester-based club failed to make it to the top four in the previous campaign. As a result, United are not playing in the Champions League this season. On the other hand, Napoli start their UCL campaign next month in their first game against Liverpool.
Ronaldo has missed most of the Red Devils’ pre-season. The 37-year-old has not started the 2022/23 campaign on the best of notes either.
Ten Hag has preferred other forwards ahead of Ronaldo in the XI in the first four games of the season. The Portuguese has started just one game against Brentford, in which we lost 4-0.
In the last two fixtures against Liverpool and Southampton, Ronaldo has remained on the bench and has only played a bit-part role in the final minutes of the games.
