Barcelona forward Memphis Depay waiting for ‘official offer’ from Manchester United for astonishing homecoming
Memphis Depay is waiting for an ‘official offer’ from Manchester United to head back to Old Trafford from Barcelona this summer, according to Sport (h/t Express).
The Red Devils have eyes on the Dutch forward to bolster the forward line. Depay has already had a conversation with the club. Now, the 28-year-old is waiting for United to make a proposal before the end of the summer transfer window.
Other Premier League clubs have sent offers to the Holland international. Tottenham Hotspur were a side earlier linked with Depay. The Manchester-based club seemingly face competition for the 28-year-old’s signature. The former Red Devil has not ruled out staying at Camp Nou either.
Depay signed for United in 2015 from PSV Eindhoven. After an impressive goalscoring campaign with the Dutch side, the Holland international made his way to the Theatre of Dreams.
The 28-year-old played an essential part in Louis van Gaal’s XI. However, with the Dutch manager’s departure and Jose Mourinho’s arrival in 2016, Depay rarely saw any game time.
In January 2017, the Holland international made a permanent switch to Olympique Lyon. Depay thrived in Ligue 1. And last summer, the 28-year-old was signed by Barcelona.
However, it seems the Blaugrana are open to parting ways with Depay after a year. United are evidently low on attacking options following the departure of Edinson Cavani at the end of the previous campaign.
Last season’s top goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, is also angling for a move away. The Portugal international’s future at the club is uncertain.

While Depay had a disappointing spell previously at United, the Dutch national has matured over the years. The 28-year-old is a quality player. Erik ten Hag could do with a player of the Barcelona forward’s ilk in the squad.
