Manchester United ditch interest in Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp
Eintracht Frankfurt have put a price tag of £21 million on Kevin Trapp, who Manchester United have been linked with. Subsequently, the Red Devils have cooled off their interest in the German goalkeeper, according to The Telegraph (h/t Mirror).
Trapp emerged as a target for United, with Erik ten Hag appreciative of the German shot-stopper. The Manchester-based club wants to sign a respectable goalkeeper capable of competing with David de Gea for the number one spot.
The Dutch manager is concerned about the Spaniard’s ability with the ball at his feet. Trapp is someone who is considered comfortable at playing the ball out from the back.
Ten Hag currently has De Gea and Tom Heaton in the squad as his experienced goalkeeping options. The Spaniard has retained his spot in between the sticks after a patchy spell for a few years.
United had Henderson
After the 2018 World Cup, the 33-year-old’s confidence seemed to drop. His performances in between the sticks weren’t up to the mark. And after a point, fans called for De Gea to be dropped.
Dean Henderson was an up-and-coming goalkeeper at the time on United’s books. The 25-year-old had an impressive two-season-long loan spell at Sheffield United in the Championship and the Premier League.
The England international returned to the club in the 2020/21 season. Henderson shared minutes with De Gea in goal and put in decent performances for the Red Devils. Supporters felt the Spaniard’s time as the number one in Manchester was about to end.
However, in the 2021/22 campaign, it was the 25-year-old who wasn’t given enough opportunities in the XI. De Gea retained the starting spot in goal, relegating Henderson to a backup role. And this summer, the England international joined Nottingham Forest on loan.

Now, United are trying to find a goalkeeper comfortable with playing short. De Gea made a few high-profile errors against Brentford. We already had a decent shot stopper in Henderson who was capable with the ball at his feet. However, the lack of planning has led us to search for competition for the Spaniard.
