Casemiro set to take part in first Manchester United training session ahead of facing Southampton
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to take part in his first training session with the Red Devils. It’s likely that the 30-year-old will be part of Erik ten Hag’s squad when they visit St. Mary’s Stadium on 27 August, according to Alvaro de Grado of Relevo on Twitter.
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid. The Brazilian has received his work permit and will now be able to take part in our games. And the Red Devils face Southampton next.
The 30-year-old joined the club at a time when United fans were crying out for more midfield signings. Ten Hag had only been given a single player to bolster the middle of the park before Casemiro’s arrival.
The summer saw a mass exodus in the engine room. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata left the club. The number six and number eight positions were weakened.
Casemiro will bring quality in midfield
However, United only managed to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The club failed to provide the new gaffer with adequate reinforcements and only recently struck an agreement with Madrid.
The first two fixtures of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign reflected the lack of planning within the club. We got off to our worst start in the league for 101 years with two losses.
Ten Hag opted to start Fred and Scott McTominay in the middle of the park against Brighton & Hove Albion. The two had a disappointing game and made a number of errors. Our midfield was overrun by the Seagulls as we lost 2-1.
Fred once again started against Brentford while Eriksen was deployed in the deep-lying midfielder’s role. Both the players struggled as the Bees scored four past us in 35 minutes of the first half.

Supporters do not feel Fred and McTominay are good enough to start for United. Hopefully, the arrival of Casemiro will plug the hole in the engine room. It remains to be seen whether he plays a part against Southampton.
