Erik ten Hag printed out quotes criticising Manchester United to push the players before Liverpool victory
Manchester United players were made to look at the criticism of pundits before the Liverpool game. Erik ten Hag printed out quotes and statistics and stuck them at the training ground and dressing room, according to The Mirror.
The Red Devils lost their first two competitive games of the 2022/23 season against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. Pundits and fans lambasted the manner in which the Red Devils performed.
Ten Hag made sure the players knew how they were being talked about by printing out what had been said about them – “United simply aren’t good enough”, “Liverpool to win 5-0 again”, “Can’t run”, “not a team” and “they could go down” were some of the quotes.
Statistics such as distance covered, passing percentages, clearances and ball recoveries were also used to motivate the team to improve. We had zero points and were sitting in the 19th position in the table.
Ten Hag led United to victory against Liverpool
It seemed to work in the end as the Manchester-based club beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho scored the two goals for United.
The Red Devils looked to be much sharper and hungrier against the Merseysiders. We played on the counter effectively and pressed the Liverpool players when necessary.
United’s defence, midfield and attack let down the supporters after the Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford games. Our players failed to score a goal and we conceded six in the two games.
Ten Hag made some bold decisions as he dropped captain Harry Maguire, Cristiano Ronaldo, Fred and Luke Shaw from the starting lineup. Thankfully, we got the job done and secured the three points.

However, going forward, United need to be consistent in their performances. The game against Liverpool can’t be a one-off. We must show the same desire when we face Southampton next at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
