Manchester United cancel pre-match meeting planned at Lowry Hotel ahead of Liverpool fixture due to fan protests against the Glazers
Erik ten Hag and the rest of the Manchester United squad will not be meeting at the Lowry Hotel this afternoon for the planned pre-match meeting ahead of the Liverpool match due to fan protests against the Glazers, according to Manchester Evening News.
The team were set to link up at the hotel in Salford. However, supporters have organised demonstrations against the ownership. The Lowry Hotel is a site where some fans have already gathered, with the protest expected to be ‘a big one’, sparking security fears.
It seems the players and management could meet up at Old Trafford instead. Fan disapproval against the owners is at a high right now.
The Glazers took control of the club in 2005. Since then, there’s been a feeling that the club have disregarded the supporters. The infrastructure of one of the biggest clubs in the world is evidently in tatters.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013 has brought forth all the problems. The leadership has been inadequate in planning for the future. From managerial appointments to player recruitments, fans have been disappointed with it all.
We saw similar protests against the owners last year. The European Super League was gaining momentum and supporters decided to take matters into their own hands to scrap those plans.
United were scheduled to play Liverpool on that day as well. In the end, the match was postponed after protesters started their dissent inside Old Trafford, occupying the pitch.
Fans believed Erik ten Hag’s appointment was the start of a new era. However, the club have once again seemingly failed in giving the manager the tools required. The first two losses of the season make the issues evident.

The win over the Merseysiders during pre-season seemed to have been a red herring considering the start to the campaign United have had. It remains to be seen whether the game goes ahead. If it does, hopefully, the Red Devils will get a positive result.
