Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk rejects claims that he is interested in purchasing Manchester United

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has claimed on Twitter (h/t Mirror) that he’s buying Manchester United from the Glazers. The tech mogul is notorious for tweeting outrageous stuff and promptly went on to kill the excitement hours later.

The Red Devils are seemingly in a slump at the moment under the ownership of the Glazer family. United’s graph of success has gone down since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

The Manchester-based club’s owners have since then evidently appointed the wrong people to run the football operation. The failure of the current model can be seen in the managerial appointments and signings United have made over the years.

David Moyes was the chosen one to replace Ferguson. But the Scottish manager was sacked midway through his first season due to poor performances. Most of the players that had starred previously were on the decline. However, there appeared to be no plan in place to replace them.

The appointments of Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho followed. While they did bring silverware to the club, United failed to land top honours on a consistent basis. The last time we won the Premier League was in Fergie’s last season in the Old Trafford dugout.

Several managers have fallen short and the transfer dealings have more often proven to busts than a success. An overhaul is needed starting from the top. The Glazers have constantly come under fire from the supporters and it is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Take it with a pinch of salt!

Musk’s comments can be taken with a pinch of salt. He after all did come out and claim later on that he has no intentions of purchasing a sports team. It would appear that the Old Trafford faithful got excited over nothing.

Should he ever venture into the space, the Red Devils might stand a chance given his ‘affinity’, but for now, we can all dismiss this as a random tweet without much substance behind it.

The new season under Ten Hag was supposed to start a new era at the club. But the results in the first two games of the new season reflect that the manager hasn’t been backed during the transfer window. The fans have also planned a protest against the Glazers before the Liverpool game.

Whether Musk is actually serious remains to be seen. Over the years, the Tesla CEO has made various claims.
