Manchester United are currently in conversations with Spanish club RCD Espanyol for the signature of Raul de Tomas, according to COPE (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are fascinated by the prospect of signing the 27-year-old from the Periquitos. Talks between the two clubs have started. United could compel the La Liga outfit to part ways with De Tomas for £25 million.

The first two games of the new season under Erik ten Hag have shown the faults in the Manchester-based club’s forward line. We’ve failed to find the back of the net in both matches.

These problems aren’t new. United had issues in front of goal in the previous campaign as well. Only Cristiano Ronaldo contributed with a considerable amount of goals for the Red Devils.

The rest of our players failed to live up to fans’ expectations. Bruno Fernandes was the only other player apart from the Portuguese number seven to have double figures in terms of goals.

The preseason under Ten Hag gave supporters back some hope. Anthony Martial seemed to be back to his best. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho also appeared to have found their feet.

However, the French forward has been sidelined for United’s first two games. The English duo, on the other hand, have found the start 2022/23 season difficult. Rashford and Sancho look short on confidence.

Ronaldo’s future in Manchester is uncertain as well. The 37-year-old has evidently been angling for a move away this summer. However, the Portuguese international is still at United for now. He came off the bench against Brighton & Hove Albion and started the game against Brentford.

De Tomas has been on the top goalscorers list in La Liga for the last two campaigns. The 27-year-old is a decent striker. Whether United gets him before the transfer window ends remains to be seen.
