Manchester United hopeful of sealing Antony transfer from Ajax as deadline day nears
Manchester United are hopeful about a chance to sign Antony from Ajax this summer, according to the Brazilian edition of GOAL (h/t Express). The Red Devils believe the Eredivisie champions will lower their demand for the Brazilian with deadline day nearing.
United have had Antony on their wishlist for some time now this summer. The Manchester-based club have approached the club, but the Dutch outfit have asked for a hefty fee.
However, with only a few weeks to go until the end of the transfer window, United think Ajax will be willing to lower their £67.5million valuation for the 22-year-old.
Until now, United have successfully enticed Lisandro Martinez from the Eredivisie side. Erik ten Hag also came from the Dutch club to Manchester.
Antony has started the league campaign for Ajax on an impressive note. The Brazilian has started in both games of the 2022/23 Eredivisie campaign and has contributed with one goal and two assists.
Last season, the 22-year-old featured in 33 games, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists. Antony was one of Ten Hag’s key players in the Dutch outfit, having signed for de Godenzonen in the summer of 2020.
United seemingly have a shortage of attacking options. Cristiano Ronaldo ended the previous campaign as our top goalscorer. However, the Portugal international’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial have been in a disappointing vein for some time now. The attacking trio didn’t contribute enough to the team last season. The new Premier League campaign under Ten Hag hasn’t got off to a good start either.
