Erik ten Hag gets in touch with Cody Gakpo over potential transfer to Manchester United
According to Eindhoven Dagblads via Sports Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has contacted Cody Gakpo over a possible transfer from PSV Eindhoven this summer.
The former Ajax manager is looking to bring in the Eredivisie star to Old Trafford and has spoken directly with the 23-year-old. If PSV fail to qualify for the Champions League, the Dutch side could sell Gakpo.
However, the Eredivisie outfit will supposedly look for a lot of money for one of their best players. United haven’t made any proposals yet for the 23-year-old.
The Red Devils are seemingly looking to bolster their attack this summer. The Manchester-based club are currently short on numbers up front. And the hierarchy haven’t added any forward to the squad this transfer window.
United have made just three major signings this summer. We’ve evidently focused on the defence considering the fact that the club have brought in two players for the backline.
Christian Eriksen has been the only attack-minded signing. But even the Danish national isn’t an out-and-out forward. The 30-year-old has played as a number 10 for most of his career.
With Anthony Martial being sidelined and Cristiano Ronaldo missing most of pre-season, Eriksen was played as a centre-forward in the first game against Brighton & Hove Albion. But Ten Hag changed the midfielder’s position in the second half against the Seagulls.
The Denmark international played as the pivot after Ronaldo came on against Brighton. In the Brentford game, the 30-year-old started in the number six position.

United appear to lack depth in the attack at the moment. Gakpo is a Holland international. We need to instil competition in the forward line with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho struggling for form.
