Manchester United are open to selling James Garner this transfer window, according to Manchester Evening News. The Red Devils value the 21-year-old between £15 million and £20 million.

Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be looking at the England U21 international’s signature. Garner returned to United this summer after an impressive 18 months with the Tricky Trees.

With Forest, the 21-year-old became a key member of a side. The West Bridgford side ended up winning promotion to English football’s first tier via the Championship play-offs.

Graner initially went on loan to Watford in the 2020/21 season and played a part in the Hornets’ Championship campaign for half a season. United then decided to cut the spell short and sent him to Forest.

The 21-year-old immediately became an essential part of the Tricky Trees’ XI. With Steve Cooper’s appointment in the previous campaign, the West Bridgford side looked to play exciting football. And they ended up in England’s top flight for the 2022/23 season after 23 years out of it.

Garner played a massive part for Forest in their bid to the PL. In the 2021/22 campaign, the 21-year-old featured in 48 games, scoring four goals and providing 10 assists.

The United academy graduate played in various positions for Forest in the middle of the park. Garner was primarily deployed in the defensive midfield role but was also trusted in the number eight and 10 positions.

Supporters of the Red Devils have been crying out for more midfield reinforcements this summer. The fans of the Manchester-based club don’t feel Fred and Scott McTominay have the necessary qualities.

United evidently need a number six and a box-to-box player. Erik ten Hag has had Garner for the pre-season, but the Dutch manager hasn’t afforded the 21-year-old enough minutes.

It seems the management doesn’t trust Garner to make an impact in the first team. But supporters will feel the youngster has been hard done by. He has talent, but the 21-year-old hasn’t been given an opportunity to showcase it at Old Trafford.
