David de Gea takes the blame for Manchester United’s loss to Brentford
Speaking in a post-match interview to @ShamoonHafez after Manchester United’s embarrassing loss to Brentford as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United goalie David de Gea has taken the blame upon himself for his side’s loss against the Bees.
The Red Devils had a Premier League night to forget. Not in their wildest dreams would they have imagined that they would be humiliated to this extent by Thomas Frank’s team but yesterday was one of those nights.
Man United lost 4-0 to Brentford last night conceding four goals in 35 minutes. Goals from Da Silva, Jensen, Ben Mee and Mbumeo knocked the stuffing out of the Red Devils and they never really recovered from that.
The first goal that the Red Devils conceded which was credited to Da Silva was an absolute howler from David de Gea. He let slip a ball hit straight at him back into his own net and it was only the beginning of a night that only went South for Man United.
The Spanish shot-stopper had a part to play in the second goal as well, although it was more Christian Eriksen’s mistake. De Gea’s pass out from the back to Christian Eriksen was stolen by Brentford who were pressing really high.
Although the veteran shot-stopper made a few more solid saves in the absence of which Man United could have been looking at an even worse scoreline, his mistakes were appalling and there is no doubt that it cost the game for ten Hag’s men.
The Spanish shot-stopper conceded that it was his mistakes that led to Man United’s downfall last night but the truth is, he was only a part of the issues that the Red Devils had last night
“I cost three points to my team today and it was a poor performance from myself. It was a horrible day”
Romano claims that De Gea personally asked to do the post-match interview last night and it shows the kind of mentality that the Spaniard possesses. He is at least willing to take responsibility and not run away and hide from the mess.

The Spanish goalie has arguably been Manchester United’s best player over the last 12 months. His performance last night is likely to have been just a blip. De Gea is likely to be back to his best soon but the same cannot be said about Man United though who have a lot of work to do.
