Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United deal for Bologna centre-forward Marko Arnautovic ‘100% over’

Manchester United pulled out of the negotiations with Bologna for centre-forward Marko Arnautovic after receiving complaints from fans. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, there’s no chance of any more negotiations.

The Serie A club rejected the Red Devils’ initial bid but were expecting United to come back with an improved one. But it seems the supporters were successful in convincing the club to pull out of the deal.

The Manchester-based club have been chasing a striker this summer. But additions to the squad have been hard to come by. The club have managed to bring just three new faces as of yet to Old Trafford this summer.

Tyrell Malacia was the first addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad. It was followed by the signings of Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. However, attacking reinforcements have yet to come through the door.

After last season’s poor showing in front of goal, one would have thought the management would be steadfast in bolstering the forward line. But the club have only managed to focus on the defence.

But United need to add quality in every part of the pitch. Fans aren’t convinced the current squad is good enough to challenge for titles.

The Brighton & Hove Albion result in Ten Hag’s first competitive game in the Old Trafford dugout has made the concerns more evident. Unfortunately, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have started the new campaign continuing last season’s form.

The most disappointing part was the shortage of options Ten Hag had at his disposal with Anthony Martial being sidelined. Cristiano Ronaldo was the only capable number nine available. But the Portuguese missed the majority of pre-season.

The Dutch manager opted to play Christian Eriksen in the centre-forward position. United have failed to give Ten Hag the right tools to challenge. The pursuit of Marko Arnautovic reeked of desperation and fans are glad the deal has collapsed. Hopefully, the management will turn to better targets now.
