A consortium along with Michael Knighton set to table ‘hostile bid’ to the Glazer family for Manchester United
Former Manchester United director Michael Knighton and a consortium are set to table a ‘hostile bid’ to the Glazer family for the club. The 70-year-old feels it’s time for change at Old Trafford.
United fans have for years called for the dismissal of the current owners. They feel the club have been mismanaged. Since David Gill and Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, the organization appear to have no direction.
Speaking to Man Utd The Religion on Youtube (h/t Manchester Evening News), Knighton suggested that the Manchester-based club were in tatters at the moment. The former United board member feels the Glazers are responsible for the crisis with the Red Devils.
“We are a club in crisis and we all know the reason why.”
“We have an inept and frankly useless ownership who know little about this game of football.”
Initially holding a minority share in 2003, the current owners were able to acquire United in 2005. Since then, fans have been irked by the manner in which the Glazers took over the club.
Supporters have seen enough and want the owners to step down. The protests after the Super League announcement were some of the most intense in recent years.
Knighton previously came close to buying United in 1989 but failed in his attempt. Now, along with other backers, he is readying a bid to present the Glazers and compel them to sell.
“We are now working on the offer document. Remember, it is a hostile bid – that simply means that the club isn’t officially for sale. But my intention is to present these owners with a legitimate, potent and commercial offer to say: ‘You have run out of road, it’s time go, because your time is up’.”
Before the Brighton & Hove Albion game, United fans protested against the current ownership. Supporters have long demanded the dismissal of the Glaze family from the club.

While the family has spent money, it’s been ill-advised. Ed Woodward failed in providing stability to the club after the Fergie era. The appointments since have all failed. It remains to be seen how Erik ten Hag goes about his business and whether the Glazers stay on for long.
