Manchester United unsure about pursuing Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech
According to Nabil Djellit (h/t Express), the decision makers at Manchester United are in dispute about whether to sign Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech this summer.
Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen the attacking depth in his side. Supposedly, Ziyech is one of the names being talked about. But higher-ups in Manchester are unsure about bringing in the Moroccan.
Ziyech has had a hard time in the Premier League since joining Chelsea in 2020 from Ajax. The 29-year-old hasn’t been given a consistent run in the side by Thomas Tuchel and is a shadow of the player he was at Ajax Amsterdam.
The Morocco international has started 29 games in the Premier League for the Blues in the last two seasons. In 83 appearances for the Stamford Bridge side, Ziyech has scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists.
United’s summer transfer window so far has seen the arrival of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. The Red Devils have focused on bolstering the backline.
But the Manchester-based club need to focus on other areas of the pitch as well. Our highest goalscorer in the previous campaign was Cristiano Ronaldo. But the 37-year-old’s future is uncertain at the moment.
None of the other players in the Man United squad scored more than 10 goals throughout the season in all competitions. The likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford failed to make an impact, while Anthony Martial left in the middle of the previous campaign and joined Sevilla on loan.
This makes focusing on attacking reinforcements vital for United. Ziyech has played most of his football in the attacking-midfield role, but he’s also capable of playing on the right-wing.
