Sevilla frontrunners in race for Manchester United left-back Alex Telles

Sevilla are frontrunners in the race for Alex Telles, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. The Spanish side are ‘pushing’ to sign the 29-year-old left-back from Manchester United.

The Brazilian was linked with a move to FC Porto. But a reunion looks unlikely since the Portuguese giants haven’t put in a bid for Telles.

A move to the Andalusian club is on the cards as Sevilla lead the race. The Spaniards are currently negotiating a deal with the Red Devils for the Brazilian.

Telles seems to have gone down the pecking order at United with the arrival of Tyrell Malacia. And Erik ten Hag appears to be satisfied with the current options he has for the left-back role.

Lisandro Martinez signed from Ajax this summer. The Argentine is a versatile defender capable of playing in the midfield as well. The 24-year-old has also played at left-back.

Luke Shaw has been the Manchester-based club’s first choice in the left of defence for a while now. The England international is one of the best on his day. But injuries have been a constant hindrance for the 27-year-old.

With all the options at Ten Hag’s disposal, taking hold of a starting berth is a challenging task. And most of the players in the squad will be looking for game time due to the World Cup at the end of the year.

United fans wouldn’t have Telles in their XI due to the Brazilian’s defensive frailties. The 29-year-old is decent in the final third, but the Old Trafford crowd is not convinced about his performances in the backline.

A move away is the best bet for Telles at the moment. If he leaves, United could also use the space and money the left-back’s departure would free up to invest in other areas of the pitch.
