Manchester United are keeping tabs on Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest
Manchester United are looking into a potential move for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest, according to Sport via the UtdPlug on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 21-year-old is seemingly open to the idea of playing for the Red Devils. Old-Trafford is a compelling destination for the United States international. And United have asked about him.
Dest signed for Barcelona in 2020 from Ajax Amsterdam. Since then, the 21-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent with the Catalans. But the US international hasn’t been able to become a regular for the Blaugrana.
At United, the right-back spot has uncertainty around it. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot shared game time last season. But the duo haven’t been able to secure a starting berth.
The former Crystal Palace defender was signed for big money back in 2019. Defensively, the 24-year-old is adept at taking the ball away from the opposition. However, his decision-making in the final third of the pitch has let down fans.
Dalot, on the other hand, has attacking instincts. The Portuguese got a considerable amount of minutes last season, both at right and left full-back positions. But spectators feel he switches off defensively at times.
Towards the end of last season, Wan-Bissaka seemed to have lost his place in the XI. Dalot was chosen by Ralf Rangnick in his side more often.
But fans don’t feel either of them should be starting for United since they lack qualities in certain aspects of their game. Our defensive record last season was poor. Thus, the Red Devils have an important hole to fill in the side.

Dest is a talented prospect. However, while he’s great offensively, fans who’ve seen him play regularly know that the 21-year-old sometimes lacks defensive awareness. United require a more experienced and well-rounded player.
