Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to sort the Cristiano Ronaldo situation

Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to figure out a solution for the Cristiano Ronaldo saga as the Portuguese wants a move. The former Red Devil wants the club to make a decision soon.

Ronaldo is looking at leaving United after just one season back at the club. The 37-year-old is supposedly keen to play Champions League football, which the Red Devils missed out on after finishing outside the top four in the previous campaign.

Ferdinand, who spent 12 years at United, wants the club to work it out with Ronaldo. Speaking to Mirror Football, courtesy of BT Sport, the legendary defender compares the situation to that of Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Kane last summer.

“As players, you just want the situation ironed out and sorted out immediately.

“You don’t want it lingering on and dragging on, I think Harry Kane had that with Spurs last year.”

The England captain had a bad start to the season in the previous campaign. If Ronaldo ends up staying, hopefully, he won’t be distracted by all of this.

The Portuguese was our top goalscorer last season. When all of our other forwards failed to make an impact, the 37-year-old carried us.

Ferdinand wants the hierarchy at United to make up their minds. The England national doesn’t want the saga to affect anyone with the start of the season close by.

Manchester United need to decide immediately whether Cristiano Ronaldo stays or leaves.

“But if the reports are true – that he’s looking to move and what not – then you kind of want the club to nail that down so there isn’t a hangover going into the season. I’d like to think – if you’re looking at this as a supporter – this will be sorted out one way or the other.”

United need players committed to Erik ten Hag’s project. The new manager has come in and has had to deal with a challenging situation. Dragging this saga on does no one any favours.

The Red Devils need a plan. If the Portuguese does end up leaving, we need someone to replace his goals. The Manchester-based club then need to go out and secure more signings.

Going into next season with one of the most influential players in the squad unhappy makes the atmosphere of the dressing room worse. Ten Hag needs to be focused on bringing the team up to standards. The Ronaldo transfer drama just serves as a distraction.
