Cristiano Ronaldo is in contention to feature for Manchester United against Rayo Vallecano on 31 July as Los Franjirrojos visit Old Trafford, according to Man United News on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils have played four friendlies in Asia and Australia up until now as well as a behind-closed-doors match against Wrexham AFC. But the legendary number seven hasn’t featured yet.

Ronaldo has been looking for a move away from United and has been absent from Erik ten Hag’s time training with the team. Thus, the Dutch manager hasn’t had the option of counting on the Portuguese.

The first game of pre-season raised a bit of hope amongst fans. United beat Liverpool 4-0. The changes Ten Hag has brought in our style of play were evident.

We then had another promising performance against Melbourne Victory, followed by a win over Crystal Palace. The Aston Villa game ended in a draw, but there were encouraging signs in the game.

The pre-season has been revitalising for some of our players. Those who’ve been out of form have looked sharp under Ten Hag’s reign.

Cristiano Ronaldo was our best attacker last season.

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have rediscovered their lost form. The attackers look to have regained confidence and are now thriving in the new system.

The youngsters have surprised spectators as well. In the midfield, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage looked calm and mature on the ball. The duo caught the eye of the fans with the shift they put in.

If Ronaldo does get involved once again at United, it would be a big boost for us. The Portuguese was our top goalscorer last season. And with a decent supporting cast to back him up, the 37-year-old could be a key member of the squad going into next season if he decides to fulfil his contract.
