Bayern Munich ‘discussed’ signing Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo but decided against it
Speaking to Bild via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich director Oliver Kahn admitted that the signing of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was ‘discussed’, but in the end, the German champions decided against it.
Kahn is a big admirer of the Portuguese legend. The former legendary goalkeeper considers the 37-year-old one of the greatest players. But the Bundesliga giant’s director doesn’t feel Ronaldo fits into the club’s philosophy.
The Portuguese forward’s future has been up in the air. After an exciting homecoming, reality has set in. The 37-year-old was our best player last season, but the rest of the squad failed to support him.
The season started with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout. After finishing second in the 2020/21 season, fans had high hopes for the 2021/22 campaign.
United made some shrewd signings last summer. Raphael Varane was signed after his successful spell with Real Madrid and the Frenchman was considered the missing piece in the Manchester-based club’s defence.
Jadon Sancho also arrived to much fanfare last summer. The 22-year-old was one of the best players in the Bundesliga for two seasons running before we managed to bring him to Old Trafford. So far, he has fallen short of expectations.
Ronaldo was the other high-profile incoming from last summer. But only the Portuguese lived up to the billing while the others fell short of expectations. To call him our standout player of the season would be an understatement.
Ole was sacked and Ralf Rangnick arrived with a stellar reputation. But what spectators witnessed was a lack of effort and willingness from the side till the end of the season.
