Manchester United keeping tabs on AS Monaco youngster Benoit Badiashile
Manchester United are ‘keeping tabs’ on AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, according to L’Equipe via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror). The French side will ask for close to £42 million for the highly rated centre-back.
Chelsea are another club the Red Devils will have to contend with if they go after the 21-year-old. The Frenchman’s performances in the last couple of seasons have led to top clubs keeping an eye on him.
Badiashile has already made 119 senior team appearances for Monaco. Since the 2020/21 season, the player has become a regular for the Monégasques.
United currently have a lot of options for the centre-back spot. Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof played the majority of last season.
The defensive record was a letdown as we conceded 57 goals in our league campaign, the eighth worst. Our new centre-back signing from Real Madrid failed to perform on a consistent basis. Injuries derailed Varane’s debut season.
Maguire had a torrid time in the heart of the defence. Fans have now been disillusioned since his big-money move from Leicester City in 2019. High-profile mistakes at the back cost the team points and a possible top-four berth.
While fans were satisfied with Lindelof’s performances, he made a few errors as well. Eric Bailly was another defensive option but hardly got any minutes in the previous campaign.
With Erik ten Hag at the helm, Lisandro Martinez is the latest addition to United’s backline. The Argentine is a versatile option. He’s played under the Dutch manager at Ajax before.

Badiashile is one to look out for in the future. Currently, we have adequate numbers for the centre-back position. But if anyone were to leave, the 21-year-old Frenchman is a decent option to bring in.
