“In football you never know”: Alfred Schreuder when asked about the future of Manchester United target Antony
Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder seems to have hinted at the possibility of Manchester United target Antony leaving the Eredivisie champions this summer.
The Dutch manager said that he expected nothing to change in the current Ajax squad but also went on to state that “in football you never know”, via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Schreuder’s star man Antony has been linked with a move away, with United manager Erik ten Hag keen on reuniting with the Brazilian.
The Red Devils are looking to bounce back after last season’s disappointing end to the campaign. We now have a new manager with a wealth of experience as well as a footballing pedigree.
Under the 52-year-old’s reign, Ajax became one of the best teams in the world. The Dutch manager brought out the best in his young squad. Ten Hag led the team to an unprecedented Champions League semi-final in 2019.
In his two seasons at the club, Antony has been a big part of the Amsterdam-based side’s success. In the previous campaign, the Brazilian featured in 32 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists.
Fans have seen a reinvigorated side during the initial pre-season games United have played. The Red Devils have been on the front foot and have created a lot of chances. But this wasn’t the case last season.
Our forward line failed to have an impact in the 2021/22 campaign, with only Cristiano Ronaldo living up to expectations. Our wingers, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, had a disappointing season. Anthony Elanga was the saving grace fans needed.

If Antony is signed this summer, Ten Hag will have a player who’s already familiar with the playing style the Dutch manager wants to implement. The 22-year-old is also good competition for the other underperforming forwards in the squad.
