Brighton star Solly March confident about beating Manchester United in the opening game of the season
Brighton & Hove Albion wing-back Solly March is confident of being able to beat Manchester United in the opening game of the season on 7 August. The Seagulls beat the Red Devils 4-0 in the final stages of last season.
United’s record against Brighton, apart from the result in May, has been excellent. We had won seven games in a row against the Seagulls before losing last season.
March, who’s spent his entire senior career with Brighton, believes his side is capable of winning at Old Trafford. Speaking to Sussex Live, the 28-year-old realises a different United side will turn up though with new manager Erik ten Hag in the dugout.
“They [United] are going to know how that last game went but they will be more up for it, obviously they have a new manager [Erik ten Hag] and will definitely be harder to play against but yes, I don’t see why we can’t go there looking for a result. Why not? We can beat any team on our day.”
The Red Devils have shown some prosperous signs during the pre-season. The team seems to be progressing under the Dutch manager and there have been signs of change in the way we play.
Fans of the Manchester-based side feel that there’s more intensity in the side’s pressing. The team has shown encouraging signs in their ability to create chances and score goals.
Our first game against Liverpool is evidence of the change Ten Hag has brought to United. The team looks to press the ball with much more intent. Fans were also pleased with the way the side played out of pressure.
We won against Melbourne Victory as well. The Red Devils followed that up with another result in the win column against Crystal Palace.
While the Aston Villa game ended in a draw, we were the better side for most of the game. In all these results, fringe players from last season like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have had the chance to shine. Jadon Sancho was also a standout.
