Transfer News: Manchester United target Brian Brobbey on the verge of sealing Ajax move

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, talented Dutch striker Brian Brobbey, who Manchester United wanted to sign, has sealed a move to Ajax ahead of next season.

As per De Telegraaf (h/t Metro) earlier this week, Brobbey called Ten Hag to inform him that he won’t be joining the Old Trafford outfit.

One of the most talented strikers coming out of the Ajax academy in recent years, Brobbey is destined for the very greatest in football. He is extremely talented and with the right development, can reach great heights.

His decision-making hasn’t always been the best, on or off the pitch. After progressing through the youth ranks at Ajax, Brobbey decided to switch to RB Leipzig in what later turned out to be a dismal transfer decision.

Brobbey failed to score or assist a single goal at Leipzig and pushed for a move back to Ajax, just six months after leaving them. He eventually sealed a loan move back to the Eredivisie champions and immediately rediscovered his mojo.

After the end of his loan spell, it was evident that Brobbey did not have a future in the Bundesliga. He wanted to make the return to the Netherlands and play for Ajax but Manchester United were also interested in signing the player.

Playing under his former manager Erik ten Hag at a club of Man United’s stature would not have been easy to say no to. At 20, not many players get that opportunity but it seems like Brobbey has made the decision that is better for his career.

Romano claims that the Eredivisie giants have agreed on a fee of €17m plus add-ons for the talented 20-year-old. If he continues his development in a similar vein, Ajax will know that they can sell him for much more than that in the future.

Staying in the Netherlands and playing regular football is just what Brobbey needs at the age of 20. Here, he would have been consigned to a backup role and it only would have stunted his development and progress.

Brian Brobbey finally seems to be making the right decisions. If his performances continue on a similar note, it might not be long before Man United approach Ajax for the player again.
