Transfer News: Manchester United target Brian Brobbey nearing Ajax move
According to popular Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United target Brian Brobbey is closing in on a move to the Eredivisie giants Ajax this summer.
The Red Devils have been interested in signing the talented Dutch striker this summer but the player seems keen on a move to Amsterdam. He is very close to joining the club on a permanent deal and Man United are set to miss out on another target.
One of the most talented strikers to come out of the Ajax academy in recent years, Brobbey decided to make the switch to RB Leipzig at the start of last summer. However, the move turned out to be miserable for him.
Failing to score or assist a single goal during his six-month spell with the Bundesliga club, Brobbey returned to Ajax on loan for the second half of the season and immediately rediscovered his mojo under Erik ten Hag.
With the former Ajax manager now moving to Old Trafford, he wanted to sign the talented Dutch striker for the Red Devils. However, it looks like the player wants to continue his development in Amsterdam.
In 27 matches overall last season, Brobbey scored eight goals and provided four assists across all competitions. Considering that all this output came after the January switch to Ajax, it is pretty impressive indeed.
At 20 though, considering the fact that a switch to the Bundesliga did not work out, Brobbey has been very smart in staying at Ajax. Sebastien Haller has left the Eredivisie champions and he could now be their first-choice striker.
Brobbey has enormous potential and it is only a matter of time before we are linked to the player yet again in a few seasons’ time. However, it is highly unlikely that we will be alone in our interest at that time.
