Donny van de Beek backs Harry Maguire after he was booed
Speaking in an interview after Man United’s pre-season win against Crystal Palace as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek defended the performances of his teammate, Harry Maguire, after the player was booed.
United emerged 3-1 winners against Crystal Palace this summer with Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford all on the score sheet for the Red Devils. It was yet another performance from Erik ten Hag’s team.
One player who was booed before the match began and during the initial stages of the match was Man United captain Harry Maguire with the former Leicester man on the receiving end of the wrath from the fans.
The English international actually had a very solid performance and slowly yet surely won the fans over with his performance during the match today. He was one of United’s best players on the night and was solid for the most part.
One player who was quick to come to the defence of his captain was none other than Man United midfielder Donny van de Beek:
“I heard as well. I didn’t know really what happened. But I think if I saw the game today I think Harry was playing really well. He was aggressive, he got so many balls, so that means he has a big personality. He has a lot of experience, so I think that’s positive what he (showed), his performance today”
Maguire’s status in the team has come under question this summer. It was widely expected that he will be stripped of his captaincy ahead of next season but ten Hag has put the weight behind Harry Maguire, at least for now.
It is maybe this kind of backing that will bring the best out of Maguire. After all, the Englishman has the talent to succeed and this could be the season when he shows everyone why Man United paid all the big money for him.
