Transfer News: Erik ten Hag adamant about signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona
According to @sbates_people (via The United Stand) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is extremely adamant that the club has to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona this summer.
This Man United – Frenkie de Jong saga has been dragging on for way too long now and it seems like we are circling round and round and not making any progress. The agreement with Barcelona is not the issue but the Red Devils are struggling to convince the player.
Frenkie is very clear in his stance that he wants to stay at Barcelona and he is not even considering a move to Man United as things stand. Hence, this is turning out to be a long-drawn transfer saga with neither party willing to back out.
Anyone who has seen de Jong play will know that he is one of the best midfielders in the world abilities-wise, capable of putting in performances of high quality on a regular basis and influencing results single-handedly.
The talented Dutchman made the switch from Ajax to Barcelona in 2019 and has since then gone on to become one of the best midfielders in La Liga. He has however been a player who polarizes opinion at the Camp Nou with many people feeling that he can perform far better than he does.
The problem with Frenkie de Jong is that he often becomes a victim of his own talent. The 25-year-old possesses so much ability that even when he performs at a high level, there is always this greed of wanting more from him.
This season has been no different for Frenkie. He was fairly consistent with his performances but he failed to convince the Barcelona faithful. The 25-year-old played 45 times for the Catalan club this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
Man United need a midfield rebuild undoubtedly and Frenkie de Jong would be an instant upgrade to all the players they currently have in the squad. However, a deal for the Barcelona man seems increasingly unlikely day by day.

A huge summer awaits Man United and the signing of Frenkie de Jong seems to be an important deal for the club. However, signing a player who doesn’t want to be here might not be the best solution and it remains to be seen how the Red Devils go about this situation.
