Transfer News: Brian Brobbey has informed Erik ten Hag that he will join Ajax
According to @MikeVerweij (via The United Stand) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Manchester United target Brian Brobbey has called Erik ten Hag to inform him that he will be joining Ajax this summer.
Ten Hag wanted to bring the talented Dutch striker who he has worked with at Amsterdam to Old Trafford. However, it seems like the player wants to remain at Ajax and not make the big move to England yet.
A product of Ajax’s famed academy, Brobbey made the switch from Ajax to RB Leipzig at the beginning of last season but the move did not work out. Just six months later, he came back to Amsterdam on loan and wants to make the switch permanent.
The 20-year-old is a serious talent who can turn out to be a very promising striker in the future. His move to the Bundesliga might not have worked out but that does not deny the obvious potential Brobbey possesses.
After failing to score a single goal for the German club in the first six months of this season, Brobbey managed to score eight goals across all competitions upon his return to Amsterdam and proved doubters wrong.
Ajax are keen on keeping their youth player and Brobbey is also willing to stay on at Amsterdam and this seems like a move that makes sense for all parties. The 20-year-old has been kind enough to call his former manager and tell him about his decision.
At 20, Brobbey is very young in his career and developing at a club like Ajax might just be what he needs at the moment. A move to England might be too soon for a player who struggled in the Bundesliga after all.
Erik ten Hag might have wanted to sign the player for Manchester United but it seems like the player has made the decision that seems to make more sense for his future, development and his career as a whole.
