Transfer News: PSG pass on the opportunity to sign Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo

According to the French publication Le Parisien (h/t Manchester Evening News), French giants PSG have passed on the opportunity to sign Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has been subject of constant speculation for some time now and despite Erik ten Hag insisting that the Portuguese forward is not for sale, the rumours just don’t seem to die down any time soon.

It emerged a few weeks back that the Portuguese superstar had asked to leave the club citing a lack of ambition. Ronaldo has since then failed to turn up to pre-season training with the club supposedly giving him permission to deal with a family issue.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United from Juventus only last summer many years after leaving them to join Real Madrid. His return has gone fairly decently on a personal note but the Red Devils were far from impressive.

In the Portuguese superstar’s first season back at Old Trafford, Man United struggled to a sixth-place finish barely qualifying for the Europa League and got knocked out of the Champions League round of 16 to Atletico Madrid.

Man United finished trophyless yet again failing to win even the cup competitions. Ronaldo though has enjoyed a fine season with the 37-year-old played 38 times for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and providing three assists.

It has now emerged that PSG were offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of next season but the Parisians had to pass the opportunity on due to the presence of Lionel Messi in their squad already.

Ten Hag seems to count on Ronaldo and wants him to stay ahead of next season. However, there is a polarising opinion on whether the Portuguese superstar is the right person to lead the United team forward in their new project.

There is no doubting the 37-year-old’s abilities and he is still one of the best goal scorers in the world. However, there are aspects of his game that are bound to deteriorate as time goes on and he must not become a liability to the team.

Regardless, Erik ten Hag knows best. If he thinks Ronaldo must stay, he will have a plan for him. Let’s hope the Portuguese superstar also decides to stay put at Old Trafford.
