Transfer News: Manchester United will not target PSG star Neymar this summer

According to Miguel Delaney’s newsletter for The Independent (h/t The Express), Manchester United have no intentions of targeting PSG star Neymar on a potential move in this summer transfer window. He has been touted to join a Premier League side ahead of the next season, but Old Trafford may not be the destination going by this update.

Despite signing a four-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain last May, Neymar Junior’s future is far from certain right now. That is because they are supposedly willing to part ways with the talisman this summer, with his agents sounding out clubs like Man United to discuss a potential move.

However, the Red Devils are stated to be not an option for the Brazil international due to his massive wages, which are claimed to be around £35million per season. Man United do not have the capabilities to take up such a large salary package resulting in a possible transfer being ruled out.

Good for us!

Questions cannot be raised against the fact that the 30-year-old is one of the best players of this generation. That being said, signing a superstar is not something that we can afford in our current delicate situation.

It is well past high time that we stick to making smart signings that fit us rather than ones that portray empty statements. The South American does not fall into the former category as he needs a system to be built around to perform in the best possible manner.

Furthermore, the former Barcelona man has not been able to keep himself fit in the past few seasons, which, coupled with his enormous wages, would be a massive risk indeed. Hence, it is good to know that the Mancunians are staying away from him at this moment.

Fortunately for us, other potential suitors like Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United are also not able to prise away Neymar due to his salary this summer. That is a great piece of news indeed as we do not want our direct rivals to get boosted by a man of his qualities.

In any case, Neymar himself admitted at the end of the previous campaign that he wants to stay with the Ligue 1 champions beyond this summer. If that is the case, then it would have been difficult to sign him anyway, even if we are in the running for his signature.

Let’s hope that the board will stick to targets that are achievable and would suit Erik ten Hag’s plans, unlike the current situation.
