Manchester United set to lose out on Everton prodigy Emilio Lawrence to Man City

According to Football Insider (h/t London World), Manchester United are in line to lose the pursuit to sign Everton prodigy Emilio Lawrence because of Man City. The latter is set to prise away the teenage sensation to their developmental squads in this summer transfer window.

Manchester City have reached an agreement to finalise a deal for Lawrence in this transfer window. This update would come as a blow for the Red Devils as they were interested in securing his services. Chelsea had also tried their cards, but they also failed at the end in this race.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano had revealed earlier this week that the Scottish prospect would leave the Toffees this summer. Furthermore, Romano claimed that all the Big 6 clubs were interested in Lawrence, and the next destination would be chosen shortly, with the Citizens leading the race.

Transfer blow for Man Utd

If that is the case, then this latest information could prove to be true after all. Lawrence is highly regarded to be one of the best talents in his age group, which is indicated by how he has made appearances for the U23 youth team despite being just 16 years of age right now.

Primarily an attacking midfielder in trade, the Toffees ace is also able to play on both wings and even as a striker when called upon. Having someone like Lawrence in our ranks would have been great indeed, as coaches would have several options at hand when it comes to finding a clear role for him.

Lawrence made a name for himself last season, having scored six goals and assisted three times from 17 matches in the U18 Premier League division. That is a great output indeed, so it is not surprising to see how the youngster has attracted a host of attention from the top Premier League teams.

However, we have failed to take advantage of this opportunity as the Citizens seem to have added another teenage sensation to their already stacked youth system. Pep Guardiola’s side has followed a holistic approach over the years due to the regular supply of talents from within.

That has played a major role in their recent success, with players like Phil Foden rising to the top to make a name for themselves. In any case, we cannot afford to lose out on more talents in the future so let’s hope to build an attractive destination so that starlets would be intrigued by the prospect of joining us.
