Transfer News: Manchester United not confident about signing Ajax star Antony

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are not confident about signing Ajax star Antony on a potential move in this summer transfer window. This news would come as a blow for the English club and their prospect of backing Erik ten Hag by reinforcing the frontline.

Man United have expressed their interest in securing Antony’s signature for quite a while. A reunion with ten Hag at Old Trafford seemed to be on the cards at one point, but that is no longer the case. That is because they are pessimistic about their chances of completing a move for the attacker as of now.

The Amsterdam-based club have slapped a massive €80million asking price for Antony’s services as a result of the Red Devils’ interest. The valuation appears to have cooled down the pursuit as the English side feels that they are being priced out of a transfer due to Ajax’s current stance.

Man Utd must look elsewhere!

There is no doubt that the Brazilian international could become a superstar in the future under the right guidance. Even with the potential that he has in his bag, the current price tag is too unreasonable, which means that it would be best if we end our interest in Antony soon enough.

The 22-year-old would have been a solid option to bolster our attacking department as we could use a right-winger for the next campaign. We currently lack a natural choice after Jadon Sancho was moved to the left-hand side of the forward line, with Mason Greenwood also being suspended indefinitely.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga had deputized as right-wingers last season, but they failed to express themselves to the full extent due to being played out of position. As such, it would be best if we look elsewhere, especially when Paulo Dybala is available for free and is being linked with us.

If Dybala is not an option, then ten Hag could try to use Sancho on the right-wing as that is his position, to begin with in the first place. The latter played in that role at Borussia Dortmund, so perhaps the boss could help the winger to find his feet once again in that area.

In any case, we simply must not let ourselves be held ransom by the Eredivise champions because of our interest in Antony. We are currently going through a difficult situation which should be enough of a warning to stay away from making such a large investment in one single position.
