Manchester United assured that Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong remains open about a move

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Manchester United have been assured that Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong remains open about a potential move even now. They have been pursuing him for quite a long time due to him being Erik ten Hag’s main target for this summer.

It was claimed recently that de Jong continues to be not interested in moving to Manchester in this transfer window. That was said to be the case despite Man United reaching an agreement in principle with Barca for a fee of €65million in guaranteed amount plus a minimum of €20million in add-ons.

However, the Red Devils have been given assurances that the Dutchman is still willing to join them if a move can be finalised. In fact, it is further stated that they would not have chased after him to this extent if de Jong did not give them any indications of accepting their proposal.

Is there an end to this saga?

The frustrations among the fans regarding this situation are at an all-time high due to the time and effort the Manchester outfit spent in this pursuit. That being said, the club cannot be blamed in this case as the factor that is holding up this move is out of their hands.

The Blaugrana side currently owes more than £17million in deferred wages and bonuses to the 25-year-old. De Jong wants to know how those due monetary payments will be paid if his transfer to the Mancunians is facilitated before giving his approval.

The Catalans and the La Liga superstar had agreed to defer his salaries during the pandemic to ease the financial impact Covid-19 had on their books of accounts. We are simply helpless in this case as both of them have to find a solution to this problem so that we can continue with our plans.

Even so, we would want de Jong to be added to our ranks at the earliest, with the pre-season starting tomorrow with a friendly match against Liverpool. After all, integrating him into the new surroundings and teammates is essential before the official campaign begins moving forward.

Let’s hope that the Spanish club and de Jong can find common ground when it comes to the owed payments so that we can carry forward with our business for this summer transfer window. Fortunately, it is good to know that the Mancunians are not all in for the midfielder as they have alternative targets on the shortlist if they decide to walk away from this deal.
