Manchester United handed Frenkie de Jong transfer boost as Barcelona are desperate to offload him

According to the Spanish media source Marca (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have received a further boost in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong as Barcelona are desperate to offload him off the wage bill this summer. The situation is made worse by the fact that his salary has already been deferred to cope with the pandemic times.

Man United have already agreed to terms with Barca in principle over a potential move for de Jong. Now, the English club’s chances have increased after it has been revealed that the Catalans would be liable to pay £75million in total over the next four years should they keep hold of the midfielder.

Xavi Hernandez’s side’s financial troubles have been well documented in recent times, which makes this a daunting concern for them. The Red Devils would be delighted by this update as they have identified the Dutch international as their top target, with Erik ten Hag being at the helm.

More assurances for Man Utd?

Fabrizio Romano has already ruled out a salary reduction on the 25-year-old’s part which would certainly have eradicated most of the supporters’ worries. Now with this new information, an exit appears to be growing closer with each passing day at this moment.

We have recently announced Tyrell Malacia as our first signing for this summer. Christian Eriksen looks to be on route to becoming our next arrival as he has verbally agreed to join us. Ten Hag has deemed Lisandro Martinez to be our target to put our focus on moving forward.

If we can complete moves for Martinez and de Jong in the coming days or weeks, we can perhaps have a great leeway at convincing Cristiano Ronaldo to stay beyond this transfer window. Keeping hold of the talisman is crucial considering how we do not have any natural options in our ranks.

That gives us all the more reason to finalise de Jong and Martinez’s transfers at the earliest. In any case, this latest update would mean that the Blaugrana club could be eager to part ways with the holding midfielder as soon as possible.

If that is the case, then the La Liga side’s stance would favour us, but whether that could help us facilitate a move in the coming days or not remains to be seen. But that could be difficult as we are yet to reach an agreement in terms of the add-ons involved or even the personal terms at this point.

Let’s hope to see a solution soon so that we can have a greater chance of keeping Ronaldo, who has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford ahead of the next campaign.
