Transfer News: Boost for Manchester United as Frenkie de Jong unlikely to take a pay cut at Barcelona

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have been handed a welcome boost in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong with the talented Dutchman unlikely to take a pay cut at Barcelona.

The Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently revealed in an interview that Frenkie de Jong was not for sale but he did admit that there was a salary issue that needed to be sorted out with the Dutch superstar.

This would have come as a rude shock to Manchester United, who had been pursuing the Barcelona man as their priority this summer. However, it does seem like it is not the end of the road for the Red Devils after all.

Romano has now claimed that despite the club’s wishes for the player to take a pay cut and reduce his salary, it seems extremely unlikely for de Jong for reducing his salary and hence it could force the Spanish giants into selling the Dutchman.

Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since then gone on to put in great performances for the Spanish club. Even though he has been unfairly criticised for his performances, they have been top-notch.

Arguably one of the world’s best midfielders at his best, de Jong can become a superstar in the Premier League. Capable of changing a game single-handedly, no team can go wrong with signing a player of the Dutchman’s quality.

De Jong played 47 games for Xavi Hernandez’s team this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions. Frenkie has played 43 times for Holland till now and is one of the main players for the national team.

Man United undoubtedly need reinforcements to sign for midfield as it is one of their weaker positions. With a number of midfielders leaving the club this summer, the Red Devils will need to sign a quality midfielder.

Frenkie de Jong is still our priority and it seems like we still have a chance to sign the talented Dutchman. It remains to be seen as to how we manage to convince him if we do.
