According to Daily Star, Manchester United have placed their contract offer on the table to Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong to finalise his transfer move this summer. His addition would undoubtedly be a great piece of business done by the club as they look to back Erik ten Hag in the transfer window.
Man United are closing in on a deal with Barca to sign de Jong and add him to their ranks ahead of the next season. CEO Richard Arnold is trying his best to secure the midfielder’s signature for a fee of around £70million
in transfer fees. The Red Devils have now proposed a long-term contract to de Jong as they look to reach an agreement on the personal terms involved. If accepted, the Dutch international will earn wages in the region of £250,000-a-week that would make him among the top earners at Old Trafford.
There is no doubt that the 25-year-old is among the best in the business if he is provided with the right surroundings to ensure that he can freely express himself. That has not been the case at Camp Nou, as he was often played out of position to suit the team’s needs.
That would probably not be the case in Manchester, considering how the holding midfield role is vacant at this moment. Hence, the supporters would expect ten Hag to utilise the Blaugrana ace in his favoured role, which also aligns with our requirements.
Looking back to his days at Ajax, it is evident how the La Liga midfielder dominated the centre of the pitch with his impressive displays. There is no reason to think he cannot replicate that, as he has done the same during Champions League games against Real Madrid, for example.
As such, offering such a contract to someone like de Jong is certainly warranted when we need leeways to make us more of an attractive proposition for him. After all, we missed out on Champions League football plus Xavi Hernandez’s side is the midfielder’s “dream club” as well.
Hence, it is understandable if the Mancunians make a large offer to de Jong due to these above reasons. It does make sense how it may take a financial effort to prise the midfielder successfully from the Catalans in this situation. Now let’s wait and see if these terms will be accepted or not in the coming days.
