Transfer News: Everton are interested in signing former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard

According to Paul Joyce (h/t Manchester Evening News), Everton are interested in signing out-of-contract Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

The talented English midfielder has been on the books of Man United since 2008 having progressed through the youth ranks at Old Trafford before breaking into the first team in 2015. He has since gone on to become a pretty decent player for the Red Devils.

Highly rated during his formative years at the club, Lingard had a blistering start to professional football before suffering a slump in recent years. He has however had a couple of resurgent seasons of late, especially whilst out on loan at West Ham.

Regardless, it’s almost impossible for Lingard to get into the Man United first-team due to the presence of Bruno Fernandes and hence the English midfielder decided not to renew his contract with us and move to pastures new.

Whilst many Premier League clubs are interested in the signature of Lingard, the latest ones to enter the race for the 29-year-old is Everton with the Frank Lampard-led team keen on signing the former Man United prodigy.

In 232 matches for Manchester United, Lingard has scored 35 goals and provided 21 assists across all competitions. In the correct system under the correct manager, as we have seen under David Moyes at West Ham, Lingard can really thrive and be the creative lynchpin of the team.

Everton are set to begin a new project under former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard as he looks to return the Toffees to where they belong. Lingard has the capability to become the face of the project at Merseyside.

After many seasons of disappointment, now could be the time for Lingard to have his moment under the sun. At 29, it could be now or never for the Englishman. Let’s hope he takes the chance and revives his faltering career.
