Ajax star Lisandro Martinez prefers Manchester United move over Arsenal transfer

According to the Dutch outlet De Telegraaf (h/t Metro), Ajax star Lisandro Martinez prefers to join up with Manchester United instead of a potential transfer move to Arsenal this summer. This update would undoubtedly come as a great piece of news for those at Old Trafford in their attempt to improve their defence.

Erik ten Hag has set his eyes on securing Martinez’s services to meet his defensive needs after Jurrien Timber seems in line to stay in the Netherlands. It is further stated that there would probably be “big developments” when it comes to Martinez’s future in the next two days or so.

The Gunners are also in the running for Martinez, and they have even made three offers to strike a deal with the Dutch club. While the Argentine centre-back is interested in moving to Emirates, he has “placed his hopes” on teaming up with ten Hag in Manchester. That has made Arsenal increasingly worrisome about the situation, which certainly favours us in the end.

Major update for Man Utd!

Now that we have reached an initial agreement in our pursuit of Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia, the Manchester management must divert their attention to Martinez and take advantage of his preference and secure his signature in this transfer window.

The Eredivisie side is believed to be demanding a sum in the region of £45million, which is quite reasonable. After all, Martinez was named their Player of the Year for the previous season, plus the 24-year-old is also a key component in Lionel Scaloni’s impressive Argentina team.

Moreover, Martinez still has many years left in his playing career, which would mean that he can repay our investment easily moving forward. For that to happen, we must pip the North Londoners in this pursuit by agreeing on the fee involved with the Amsterdam-based club at the earliest.

Despite the South American having a preference to join us, we cannot afford to take Mikel Arteta’s side lightly as they are in a much more solid situation than us right now.

Furthermore, their project has been in the works for quite some time which gives them further stability, unlike us. That is something that should keep us wary as Martinez is open to accepting their proposal after all.

Then again, reuniting with ten Hag can be considered a kind of security of its own as Martinez would be able to work with someone who knows his strengths. That could be crucial to ensure that the centre-half will have the best possible chance to stamp his authority as a starter in the national team ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

More Manchester United News

Our fans would just be hoping that this saga comes to a rest as soon as possible so the club can focus on other targets- if there are any. Arsenal’s interest has turned out to be a headache- one we must get rid of without coming out second best in the race for Martinez.
