Transfer News: Manchester United register interest in Serge Gnabry

Manchester United are interested in Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry

According to Sky Sports in Germany via United Journal on Twitter, Manchester United are interested in Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry. The interest is still in the initial stages as no real negotiations or talks have taken place.

It goes on to mention the Red Devils’ main priority is Ajax Amsterdam winger Antony, whom Erik ten Hag coached during his time in Holland.

United need forwards

Currently, Ten Hag doesn’t really have many options to play up front. With Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani out the door, we’re left with Marcus Rashford

and Jadon Sancho as the only experienced wingers in the side.

While Anthony Elanga did prove himself last season, the 20-year-old is still young to have the pressure of playing for United week in, week out. Alejandro Garnacho is a promising prospect, but the 17-year-old has only two senior appearances to his name.

Up front, Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the Red Devils’ best players since returning to Old Trafford. But the 37-year-old cannot be expected to play 90 minutes every game. Additionally, Anthony Martial’s future is up in the air and counting on him for next season would be futile.

Therefore, it’s vital that United sign at least two forwards who can come into the team and make an immediate impact. While Antony is the new manager’s preferred choice, Gnabry is a player that the Red Devils should focus on instead.

The 26-year-old German national has proven himself at the top of the game and is one of the best forwards in the world currently. Signing the playmaking winger would free up Ronaldo to concentrate more on scoring goals rather than dropping deep to get the ball and do everything in the attack.

We relied on the Portuguese great last season to score and provide chances to other players. But, with decent additions like Gnabry, that wouldn’t be the case.

While we should stick with our English duo of Rashford and Sancho, considering their lack of impact last season, especially the former’s, counting on them to help us challenge for trophies would be naive.
