Transfer News: Manchester United pushing for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio

According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are pushing to sign talented Spanish forward Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.

Man United have maintained an interest in the talented Spanish attacker for quite some time now and it has now emerged that the Red Devils are pushing to sign the player this summer. Asensio’s contract is set to expire in 12 months’ time and United see this as the right time to pounce.

Asensio is yet to pen a new deal with the Spanish behemoths and it is being reported that Real Madrid are not willing to match the wage demands that the Spaniard has set for himself. That said, Los Blancos will definitely consider cashing in on a player who they could lose for free.

However, Man United are not the only club interested in signing the Real Madrid attacker with Chelsea and AC Milan also keen on a deal for Asensio.

The 26-year-old has finally shown glimpses of recapturing the kind of form he showed before his injury this season. He has also worked his way into the plans of Luis Enrique for the national team yet again.

Asensio played 42 times for Carlo Ancelotti’s Champions League-winning team this season, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists across all competitions. Whilst not a regular starter, the Spaniard still played a crucial role off the bench for Real Madrid.

One thing that makes Asensio stand out is his versatility. Capable of playing on either wing, as a centre-forward or even as an attacking or central midfielder, the former Mallorca man offers his managers a lot of flexibility.

If Man United manage to sign him, he would be a useful signing for Erik ten Hag. The Dutch tactician, during his time at Ajax, has shown that he has a penchant for players who can play in more than one position and Asensio would fit the bill perfectly.

At 26 and available at a cut-price deal, Man United cannot go wrong with signing Asensio. The Spaniard could also do with a new start to his career which has kind of stalled in recent years and a move to Old Trafford might provide him with the perfect launchpad.

Asensio to Man United feels like a very sensible deal at least on paper. It remains to be seen if it plays out in the same way on the pitch.
