Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo linked with a sensational return to Juventus
According to Express, Manchester United superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a sensational return to former club Juventus just a year after leaving them.
Ronaldo joined Manchester United last summer from Juventus after leaving them in 2009 and has since then had a pretty decent return to the club. Whilst his personal performances have been very good, the same cannot be said about the club.
The 37-year-old played 39 times for the club this season scoring 24 goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Despite his exploits, Manchester United limped to a 6th place finish and will not have Champions League football next season.
This has prompted speculation over the future of the player nicknamed ‘Mr. Champions League’ and it has now emerged that a return to Juventus is being touted as an option for the talented forward.
Dilemma?
Whilst there is absolutely no doubting Cristiano Ronaldo’s abilities as a player, there is a constant lingering question on whether he could fit into an Erik ten Hag team.
Even though his performances this season have been good on a personal note, his contribution to the team has been questioned. Ralf Ragnick, who managed the Red Devils on an interim basis, conceded that the lack of pressing from Ronaldo led to a compromise in playstyle.
Anyone who has followed Ajax over the years under Erik ten Hag knows for a fact that they were a high-pressing team that played with great intensity. Hence, it begs the question as to how much Ronaldo would be able to fit into the Dutch tactician’s plans at Old Trafford.
Hence, if an offer comes for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, it might make sense for Manchester United to accept it. The Portuguese might also want Champions League football and an exit might seem like the best option for all parties.
