Transfer News: Barcelona want at least €86m for Frenkie de Jong amidst Manchester United interest
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona is demanding at least €86m for Dutch midfield superstar Frenkie de Jong amidst sustained interest from Manchester United for the player.
Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since then gone on to prove himself at the biggest stage at Camp Nou. The Dutch superstar has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world and has often shown his quality with the Blaugrana.
The 25-year-old talented midfielder has played 46 times for Xavi Hernandez’s side this season scoring four goals and providing five assists across all competitions. Despite his performances, the Barcelona faithful have often not been convinced by the Dutchman’s exploits on the field.
Manchester United’s interest in the talented midfielder is known for quite some time now and it has now emerged that the Catalan giants have made their stance clear that they will not accept less than €86m for their prized asset.
Break the bank?
Getting a player of Frenkie de Jong’s quality at a bargain was never an option and Barcelona is not definitely doing any favours to Manchester United.
Despite that, even €86m seems like a very decent price for a player who if he performs to his potential could be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and arguably even the world. A mainstay in the Barcelona team ever since he joined the club, the Dutchman is one of the most all-rounded midfielders in the world.
Capable of dropping deep, collecting the ball, driving forward with it at his feet, beating men, working in tight spaces, making incisive passes, getting into the box, and scoring goals, there is not much that de Jong cannot do on the football field.
A true leader on the field, pairing de Jong with his compatriot Donny van de Beek, a partnership that worked wonders in Amsterdam could just be what is needed to bring the best out of the latter as he looks to resurrect his faltering career.
