Ajax issue hands-off warning to Manchester United over potential Antony transfer

According to The Mirror, Ajax have issued a hands-off warning in response to Manchester United and their pursuit of Antony in this summer transfer window. The former have no plans to lose a major part of their squad in a short period and have taken this stance as a result.

The Dutch side have already seen two of their players in, Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch, leave for Bayern Munich this summer. They are set to lose Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund, which gives more reasons for them to keep their squad intact for the next season.

As such, Man United have been dealt a blow with their chances of signing Antony dwindling following this update. They may not be able to sign him despite showing a heightened interest in the attacker this summer. It remains to be seen if they can facilitate a move for the winger, who is said to be valued at more than £50million in transfer fees.

Can Man Utd still sign Antony?

This news would come as a damning blow for the Manchester side as they are eager to get hold of the Brazilian international ahead of the next season. The right wing is one such area that we desperately need to bolster due to the lack of reliable options on that front.

Mason Greenwood’s indefinite suspension has left us with no natural options after Jadon Sancho was already shifted to the left wing. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard used to put in a shift on the right-hand side of the attack at times, but both of them are set to leave as free agents this summer.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga were forced to deputise in that role, but both of them failed to attain their best form as they are not suited to be played in that position. Hence, Antony would have benefited us to a greater extent, but this latest news has dampened our chances of signing him.

However, the Red Devils have been given a glimpse of hope as Ajax may be ready to sell Antony on one condition. While the Eredivisie side do not need cash boosts following their recent sales, they may be open to parting ways with one more of their key players after Jurrien Timber, another target of ten Hag, has decided to stay in the Netherlands.

Hence, the Dutch club are currently resigned to losing one of Lisandro Martinez, who is also targeted by the Mancunians and Arsenal, and Antony this summer. That means we may still have a chance at completing a move for the 22-year-old winger, but it would come at the cost of losing out on Martinez.

It will be interesting to see what choice would ten Hag make if he is forced to choose one of Martinez or Antony this summer. Reinforcing the defence is just as important, so it is difficult to see a clear decision right now.
