Transfer News: Leeds, Southampton, and Fulham interested in Manchester United defender Phil Jones

According to @MARCAinENGLISH as tweeted by UnitedStandMUFC on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Southampton, Fulham and Leeds United are interested in signing Manchester United outcast defender Phil Jones.

Jones joined the Red Devils from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 and has since then spent 11 years affiliated with Man Utd. Highly rated during his initial years at the club, it is safe to say that things haven’t panned out as expected.

The English centre-back played a game after 707 days this season against Wolves and to be fair to him, he had a good game. Regardless, the 30-year-old has played just four games in the Premier League this season and needs to move on to save his career.

Now that he is fit, Premier League clubs are showing interest in the centre-back with Southampton, Fulham and Leeds interested in the player.

A much-needed transfer?

It is almost impossible to imagine Phil Jones featuring in Erik ten Hag’s plans next season and moving him on could be the best solution for Man Utd.

A career that promised to be a huge hit has tapered off quite drastically and injuries have not been kind to him at all. It has derailed him from becoming the player he was tipped to be but it may not be too late.

Phil Jones still has time to resurrect his faltering career

A move away from Old Trafford could do the world of good for the English defender. At 30, Jones still has time left to resurrect his faltering career and there are Premier League clubs willing to give the player a chance.

The former Blackburn man can offer a lot to mid-table Premier League teams and they would also give him the perfect launchpad to kickstart his career again. Man Utd will not lose much even if Phil Jones were to leave despite the fact that Eric Bailly hasn’t been a very dependable option over the years.

But with ten Hag at the helm, it wouldn’t be unrealistic to expect the Dutchman to bring in a new face or two in defence to really stamp his authority on the team. But then again, it remains to be seen if such a thing can happen this summer with midfield looking like an area that needs urgent reinforcements.

A transfer for Phil Jones seems to be the best solution for all parties. Whilst we cannot be expecting a significant fee for the Englishman, it will be good to get him off our books finally.
